Payroll for roofing contractors, run right and tied to your jobs.

Crews paid on time every week. Piece rate or hourly. Taxes filed. Office staff kept off the roofing comp class. And every labor dollar lands on the job it belongs to, with the full burden, so your job margins are real.

What goes wrong with contractor payroll

Everyone rated at the roofing comp class

The office manager and the sales rep get rated like they are on the roof. That is an overpayment you can fix at the next audit.

Labor never hits the job

Payroll runs, the cost lands in one "Wages" account, and no job ever sees it. Every job report is missing its biggest cost.

Piece rate done on paper

Per-square pay tracked in a notebook, paid by check, never reconciled. Nobody knows what a crew day actually costs.

Late tax deposits

Payroll taxes missed by a week cost penalties. It happens most in the busiest storm months.

What payroll includes

Weekly or biweekly runs

Hourly, salary, and piece rate. Direct deposit. Hours pulled from your timesheets or job board.

Taxes and filings

Federal and state deposits, quarterly and annual filings handled through Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll.

Comp by class code

Roofing, clerical, sales, and driving classes kept separate so your audit comes back right.

Job allocation with burden

Every labor dollar, plus taxes and comp, lands on the job it belongs to.

Commission tracking

Rep commissions calculated on collected margin, not contract price, if that is your plan.

New hire and offboarding

W-4s, I-9s, direct deposit setup, final pay handled.

Common questions

Do you run payroll or just record it?

We run it. Hours come from your timesheets or job board, we process it in Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll, taxes get filed, and then we allocate the cost to departments and jobs in the books.

Can you pay crews per square?

Yes. Piece-rate pay is common in roofing. We set it up so each crew member is paid per square or per job and the cost still lands on the right job with full burden.

How do you handle workers comp?

Payroll is split by class code so office staff are not rated at the roofing rate. If your policy is auditing everyone at the roofing class, that alone is often a few thousand a year.

What about 1099 subs?

Sub payments run through bill pay, not payroll. We track every sub all year with a W-9 on file and 1099s go out in January without a scramble.

What does payroll cost?

$150 a month plus $8 per employee per month, on top of the payroll software fee. Piece-rate setup is a one-time $250.

Do I have to use your bookkeeping to use payroll?

No. Payroll runs on its own. Most clients do both because the labor cost then lands on the right job automatically.
